![]() ![]() Both movies are a blend of genres, and both movies explicitly reference Home Alone. Both movies take place during the holidays, although for some reason The Babysitter never says which holiday is happening. Both movies are about a beautiful blonde babysitter caring for a precocious 12-year-old when some unexpected guests arrive in the house. The Babysitter would make for an interesting double-feature with Better Watch Out. Or, I suppose, if they’re evil Satanists, both your child and your house are in danger. Babysitters in film are often young, beautiful girls, and in leaving them alone with your children, you’re also leaving them alone with your house when something goes wrong, they protect your child and your property. From Halloween to When a Stranger Calls and beyond, babysitters are a recurring plot device in an extremely high number of horror films, because they have the potential to combine two themes that resonate with American audiences - sex and property ownership. Horror has a long fascination with babysitters, as I detailed in my review of Better Watch Out, another new horror movie from this month that I reviewed here. It’s part Satanic cult movie, part home invasion thriller, and part action movie, all dashed with a healthy dose of black comedy, and while the tone is completely all over the place, that’s part of the fun. I approached this film with some trepidation, but luckily, it was unfounded, because The Babysitter is a very solid, genre-blending film. But when old enemies unexpectedly return, Cole will once again have to outsmart the forces of evil and survive the night.I’ve already watched one Bella Thorne-starring horror movie that was released this weekend, and that didn’t go so well. ![]() He is still hopelessly smitten with his best friend and next door neighbor Melanie – the only one who believes his story – who convinces him to forget the past and come to a party thrown at a nearby lake. Everyone in his life thinks he has lost his mind since Bee and all of her friends disappeared, making Cole’s story hard to believe. Two years after defeating a satanic cult led by his babysitter Bee, Cole continues to be haunted by the horrific events of that night. The one battle scene at the end has some super geek and video game vibes that I do not want to ruin - but it is probably my favorite scene in the whole movie.Ĭheck out my favorite The Babysitter: Killer Queen quotes. While the first one is far superior, this one is still worth a watch. There is a little bit of a twist toward the end, but I called most of it. Honestly, it is probably exactly what you expect it to be. It isn’t the best plot by any means, but it is a fun. It is predictable but not enough to take away from the story. There are some of the coolest, most grotesque deaths that make this movie totally worth watching. While this one doesn’t provide the latter, it sure does have the gore I was hoping for. Movies in this genre usually make you laugh, all while being filled with gore and maybe even some moments of suspense. TYLER GOLDEN/NETFLIX © 2020 Overall Thoughts THE BABYSITTER: KILLER QUEEN (L to R) ANDREW BACHELOR as JOHN, BELLA THORNE as ALLISON and ROBBIE AMELL as MAX in THE BABYSITTER: KILLER QUEEN. Although honestly, I would probably watch it if there was one. The ending of the movie is wrapped up nicely and I don’t expect a third one to happen. The new girl at his school is out at the lake too (you might recognize her from You), and she quickly became my favorite in this movie. What happens next is a lot of crazy horrific fun. This is all revealed in the trailer, but it picks up in the movie about thirty minutes in. He had some dealings with a blood cult in the last movie and is trying to move on. The plot is basically that Cole goes to the lake with some friends to get away from everything. There are a lot of characters that make an appearance from the first movie but again, they do a good job of explaining their roles if you didn’t see that one. I don’t know Judah Lewis from anything besides this series, but he was great, just as he was in the last one. Ken Marino provides all sorts of laughs, just as he always does. This movie is just about as fun as I expected it to be.
